This hotspring town has freeloaders covered with outdoor pools at the shore.
With an abundance of (spa-)hotels and guest houses Loutra Edipsou is fully equipped for paying guests. But most of the nice centuries old hotels have fallen to neglect. Hot waters seem to ooze out of every corner: Some are tapped but most are just running down the hill in various channels forming otherworldly mounts of calcite deposit on the way to the sea.
IRAKLEION: One many beautiful abandoned spa hotels in Loutra Aidipsou.
Thermal water rich in minerals forming ever growing limestone boulders at the shore …
… You can clearly see the bright lines of warm water in the thermal photo.
This boiling hot spring is near “40 Platania grill” up the hill …
… I measured temperatures exceeding 80°C
If you fall in one of those pots you get cooked.
Water that flows down from there next to the road forms an interesting landscape.
The free thermal bath is just next to the “Thermae Sylla Spa & Wellness Hotel” …
… water comes in at above 50ºC. The adjacent pools are quite toasty at about 45ºC.
The Thermal Baths are a nice place to be all things considered. Relatively clean water. Some more privacy would be nice, since you will be on display for passers by on the promenade.
Loutra Edipsou, Evia, Greece:
If your looking for a free open air dip on the public beach near civilization, this is it. Refreshing swim in the sea included. The lack of privacy and nature get -1 point from me. Dip!
