How to avoid getting ripped off when withdrawing cash in Spain.
WARNING: If you have a non Euro denominated card NEVER EVER agree to currency conversion at the ATM, you will be ripped off merciless according to terms and conditions.
As a foreigner, if you want to withdraw cash in Spain you will find that you will be charged a substantial fee even if there is no exchange involved and your home bank does not charge you for withdraws. The good news is: there are free options!
I just want to list the fees for my own and your reference. Let me know in the comments if fees are not up to date!
- 6,95€ at Banco Sanbadell (fee justifies the “BS” logo)
- 5,00€ at Deutsche Bank
- 4,95€ at Euronet (They pollute touristic areas with their ATMs and trick you into excepting extortionary fees using dark pattern. Avoid them like the plague.)
- 3,99€ at ChangeGroup
- 3,50€ at BancaMarch
- 3,49€ at Cashzone (Appears to be a Euronet competitor)
- 2,95€ at Caixa Bank

- 2,90€ at Targo
- 2,90€ at Cajamar
